FFS Fortnite, you’re just too good at this. It had been rumoured, but now it’s officially announced: Kicks are coming to the biggest Battle Royale on the planet. Beginning with the new Chapter 2 Remix – read more about that through here – you’ll be able to equip your characters with shoes.
These will be compatible with 500 of the most popular skins to start with, and then will expand to 95 per cent of the game’s available outfits by the spring. The initial lineup of in-game sneakers available will include footwear from Nike and Jordan. There’s no word on how many V-Bucks they’ll cost.

Some shoes will be available in the Battle Pass, others will debut in the Item Shop. Expect many of these to be based on real-life brands, although there will also be originals designed exclusively for Fortnite.
While it’s ultimately just another avenue for Epic Games to make money with microtransactions, you have to applaud the genius of all this. Not only is the developer going to have every shoe brand on the planet lining up to debut their latest kicks in the game, fans are going to want to splash out on the latest footwear fashion to personalise their virtual protagonist even further.
Personally, we can’t wait to kit out our Goku skin with a giant pair of dunks.

I think they’ve missed the boat on this one. Should’ve tried it at the height of the game’s popularity.
If I played Fortnite I would want to deck out my character in Primark gear for 200 V Bucks and that would be the end of my spending. No one can see what I was wearing after they have killed me anyway.
There was a scruffy pot head dude who used to live near me that wore dirty homer Simpson slippers too the shop in the morning with a cup of tea so if I see someone wearing them Fornite ones I won't be able to hold in the laughter 😂
Soon we'll come full circle and you'll have to pay V-Bucks just to play the game, just like quarters in arcade machines back in the old days.
I used to play Fortnite with my son, but fortunately we both outgrew it!
If you told me 30 years ago I'd be living in a world where people pay real money to get imaginary cartoon Jordans, I would not have believed you.
At least getting capped because you were seen with Jordan's still applies. Not everything goes out of style with time.
This is getting sad. Epic is going to convince young kids into buying digital shoes...
It's definitely genius, but incredibly low.
Sometimes I feel sad being the gatekeeper to what my kids can and cannot play, but then I get these reminders that actually I am right and my kids should absolutely be the ones in school that play a rich variety of games from past and present and not all the utter rubbish that their peers are seemingly hooked on: Fortnite. Minecraft. Roblox.
This is of course why Sony wants to jump onto the live service train. After all, which corporation wouldn't want their customers so devoted to their product that they would buy imaginary shoes?
There is just one, tinsy-winsy problem that they do not seem to realise. And they did not realise it with the COD clones back in the day either. And that is, why would anyone want to buy your game if an identical game already exists?
'While it’s ultimately just another avenue for Epic Games to make money with microtransactions, you have to applaud the genius of all this.'
As a gamer, the last things I'd do is applaud this or think it genius.
Idiocracy is real
@AhmadSumadi Fortnite is more popular in the last 12 months then in any other year since launch Its just not streamed as much.
Streamers moved on but the players didn't.
Fortnite has an average of 1 million concurrent players online and a 24 hour peak averaging 9 millon.
It' all time speak player count was 11,616,374 and that was only ten months ago.
The continuous updates and added content worked. The games more popular than ever. I say that as a suffering dad with a 9-year-old that "must-have" the new skins etc.
@NEStalgia “ At least getting capped because you were seen with Jordan's still applies. Not everything goes out of style with time. “
Nice. My sister worked at “Dr. jays” in the 80s. All the sneakers were bought with very tightly rolled up $100 bills. 😂
I Pooh poohed the sneaker thing thinking only so many people are going to want the Garret Wilson touchdown catch sneakers but then I saw the shark slippers and 🤯
I think I owned those. Would probably equip them if they’re in the pass. Wouldn’t spend any v bux on them but I haven’t spent any v bux on anything in 3 years since I bought my self replicating pass. 🤷🏻♂️
@NEStalgia Yeah, instead you'd throw quarters into the same machine over and over to play the same game over and over in hopes you could put three letters on a scoreboard that could easily get wiped if the power went out or the cabinet was reset.
A much more sensible use of one's money, surely.
Let's not act like playing videogames has ever been anything but dumb if you really think about it. It's all for fun and entertainment. Let people enjoy the stuff they enjoy, eh?
I don't really see the fuss.
Anyone who has played Fortnite recently could vouch that the majority of players you'll see in a match are using paid-for skins and items, often from other famous brands like DBZ, Star Wars and Marvel. Shoes are just another item. And the concept of tying in to a known brand for skins and items is also not new for Fortnite.
This is no different than Epic working with Konami to bring Snake to the game (he's in there), it's just Epic working with Nike and other brands.
@Arthur_Morgan ha! I see. My kid played it at age 11-13. He’s 17 now and stuck in COD. I tried to get him to be my Tank in Elder Scrolls Online but he says it’s boring. Maybe because he couldn’t shoot anything. 🤷🏾♂️
@AhmadSumadi You tried to show him the right path and that's what counts 😂 I dread the COD phase. Everyone is a hacker apparently! Never been beaten by a legitimate player aha.
@MFTWrecks lol, half true but putting quarters in to access the content (aka buying or renting the activity of gameplay) vs paying for imaginary clothing isn't really that comparable.
@rjejr absolutely shameless
Oooh great ,more crap for my kid to mither the hell out of me for , v bucks are like crack to the pre teens.
Are kids still playing this?
